Co-operatives UK hackathon

A Co-op Hackathon took place on 8 and 9 May 2024 at Manchester Metropolitan University. The Co-op Hackathon sought to boost the development of co-operative, ethical tech. Seven teams explored ways of harnessing technology tools to support their social innovations. These focused on a range of challenges, from social care and support for isolated individuals, to co-operative facilities management by residents of a co‑owned housing estate, to activating the innovation ecosystem of a small island community. The two-day event brought co-operators together to develop digital solutions which follow the 10 co-operative values: Caring for others, Democracy, Equity, Equality, Honesty, Openness, Self help, Self responsibility, Solidarity, and Social responsibility. The event was delivered by Co-operatives UK, in partnership with The Co-operative Bank – supporting fair and ethical business together, and in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University’s Design Factory.
